System ECU

The Electronic Control Unit is central to the genisys system as it not only governs communications between all system modules, but it also includes up to 24 digital and 4 analogue inputs. Two audio channels are supported allowing two speakers to be installed on the system using 2.5mm mono jack plugs. The volume of each channel can be set independently by means of a recessed volume control found next to each jack socket. A mute connection is also available which connects to ground when an audible alert is sounding. This can be used to mute vehicle radios if required.

The PC interface connects from the computer serial port to ECU using the connector lead. This is the only module that needs to be connected to the PC when uploading the system software, all other modules are programmed automatically from the ECU via the system data bus.

16 High-side switching digital inputs
8 Low-side switching digital inputs
4 Analogue inputs – can be used for monitoring on LCD readout or to trigger alert events
Supports 15 additional genisys input, output or user interface modules
2 Channel programmable audio alert feature
Vehicle Radio mute output available

System Monitoring

The System ECU (Electronic Control Unit), once configured by the PC, holds information about the whole system setup including module types and addresses. Not only does the ECU determine the status of the complete array of switches by monitoring all the input and keypad channels, it also runs self-monitoring diagnostics. During operation the ECU requests data from each module ID set up in the system. The type of data requested depends on the module type (Input, Output, Keypad etc.) however should any of the components in the system fail to respond correctly (determined through a data error checking algorithm) or a complete failure to respond, then an error report is sent to Keypad LCDs and audible voice alerts. This allows rapid fault diagnosis speeding up not only installation related problems but also in-field repairs.

Input Module

If the 24 digital / 4 analogue inputs found on the System ECU are not sufficient for a particular application or inputs are needed away from the main unit housing, a separate input module will be required.

Connecting to the main system communications chain, the additional unit expands the input capacity of the system by another 16 digital inputs per module.
